Thanks to the new feature added to ChatGPT, it will no longer be necessary to talk about the details again and again. This feature, called ‘custom instructions’, gives your chatbot a place to always tell it what it needs to know about you and how you want it to respond to your questions. The feature, which is still in beta, can be used by most users.

Special instructions period for ChatGPT

If you are using ChatGPT, you may have noticed that the chatbot doesn’t know much about you. When you start a new prompt, ChatGPT forgets everything you’ve talked about in the past. However, this can be prevented with the newly added special instructions. This feature will allow you to get more personal or field-specific answers for most scenarios. For example, you are a teacher and you wrote “I am a third grade teacher” in the special instructions section. Thus, when you ask for information from ChatGPT – such as interesting information about the Moon – it will be able to give you answers for the right age group. Similarly, if you’re a family of five, you can add this to your specific instructions to make sure ChatGPT recommends the correct portions for the recipes you want.

For Plus users for now

Likewise, if you only code in one language, your specific instructions can tell ChatGPT to always give you code responses that you prefer. If you want an emoji at the end of each sentence, you can also add it to the instructions. In short, instead of preparing a long prompt with all the necessary context and information for ChatGPT, you can lighten your workload by adding this context and information to your specific instructions.

The Instructions feature can also work with plugins. OpenAI stated that this feature is available for Plus users, but not for people located outside the EU and UK. Users can access this feature by clicking on their name on the web and selecting Settings > Beta features > Participate in special instructions, and on iOS, this feature can be accessed via Settings > New Features > Open Special Instructions.
