Artificial intelligence and its trademarks continue to appear everywhere. The latest reports mention the artificial intelligence codenamed “Genesis” that Google is working on and testing internally. It is reported that Google’s Genesis artificial intelligence can produce news articles.

Journalists can be fired

According to The New York Times, Google is testing a new artificial intelligence technology codenamed Genesis that can generate news articles. It is stated that the technology giant showed this tool not only to The Times, but also to the executives of the Washington Post and News Corp, which owns The Wall Street Journal. According to people familiar with this promotion, Genesis is able to generate a raw text from the data transmitted to it, be it current events or other types of information.

Some of the sources described Google’s promotion as “disturbing”. They also said that it seems to ignore the effort put into writing accurate and digestible articles. Journalists should use this tool “if it can reliably present factual information,” Jeff Jarvis, a journalism professor at the City University of New York, told the Times.

The use of artificial intelligence in the news is too risky

Since Google hasn’t made Genesis available yet, we don’t know if it will actually deliver or if it will spread misinformation. On the other hand, Google is acting very quickly in the field of artificial intelligence, especially to catch up with Microsoft-backed OpenAI. As it is remembered, Google Bard was criticized for the wrong information it gave on the day it was released.

All artificial intelligence tools tend to produce completely fabricated information, which we call “hallucination”. The “unsupervised” use of such tools in news articles can have serious consequences before this trend is completely removed. However, these tools can convert reports that might take days to compile into text in a very short time. This means significant time savings, but as we said above, the error factor is critical.
