Twitter was bought by Elon Musk for $44 billion last year, and he was first removed from his former board of directors. Former CEO Jack Dorsey, who was fired after Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, soon came up with a new platform: Bluesky. However, things don’t seem to be going well on Twitter’s rival social media platform lately.
Bluesky accused of allowing racist usernames
Many Bluesky users complain about the insults and racist statements on the platform. Users blame Bluesky management for the impunity for most insults on the platform, especially racist statements made to black people, and they are considering leaving the platform.
The platform has come under criticism for removing a large number of racist, disabled and transphobic insults from its flagged words list in a controversial update last week. However, after the reactions, a new update was made on the platform.
Although most banned words were removed with the subsequent update on Bluesky, it turned out that this situation is only valid for new users. Currently, Bluesky user accounts do not seem to be affected by this situation. Because after Bluesky’s new update, an old user was able to change the account name to an insulting term.
Upon this development, many users tagged this account and asked BlueSky for an account. Bluesky users, who are disturbed by all these developments, are threatening to leave the platform while protesting this wrong policy followed by the company. Many users have also stopped sharing on the platform until racist and insulting statements and account names are removed.
Taking the stage as a Twitter competitor, Bluesky seems to be losing a significant number of users due to its inability to prevent racist rhetoric, although it has become the center of attention with its success in a short time. The fact that an apology has not been published by the platform on this issue is another matter of criticism. So what do you think about Bluesky and allowing racist usernames?
