The excited wait continues for the GeForce RTX 4060, the new member of the Nvidia Ada Lovelace architecture. In this context, we continue to hear new leaks about the family’s mid-tier card. Finally, the RTX 4060 was compared with its predecessor RTX 3060 12GB and 8GB on the 3DMark benchmarking platform. Let’s take a look at the results together.

RTX 4060 compared to RTX 3060 12GB and 8GB

If we recall, the GeForce RTX 4060 was introduced with 3072 CUDA cores, 1.83GHz clock speed, 2.46GHz boost speed, 8GB memory, 128-bit memory bus and 110W TDP. At launch, Nvidia stated that the card is 1.2 and 1.6 times faster than the RTX 3060 and RTX 2060 with DLSS turned off, respectively, and that difference will be 1.7 and 2.3 times, respectively, with DLSS enabled.

Before we take a look at the shared results, let me remind you that there is a significant difference between the RTX 3060 8GB and 12GB. Although both GPUs have the same CUDA core count, the 12GB version comes with a 192-bit version and the 8GB version comes with a 128-bit memory bus. Therefore, there is a noticeable difference between the two cards.

Looking at the shared results, the RTX 4060 is on average 22.8 percent faster than the RTX 3060 12GB and 47.9 percent faster than the 8GB model in 3DMark tests. While it’s fair to compare the RTX 4060 with the 8GB-only model at this point, it should be noted that Nvidia bases its comparison results on the RTX 3060 12GB. Here are all the performance differences the RTX 4060 exhibited against its predecessor.
