iOS 17 brings 3D Touch back to iPhones (like…): For those who miss this feature, we’ve covered how to enable it

iOS 17 doesn't offer a lot of new features, but it does have a lot of little secrets that people revealed during the beta cycle. With the launch of the second beta, many noted a change in Haptic Touch's tap time.

According to the Twitter user @AppleIntro, who reviewed the iOS 17 beta versions; In Haptic Touch, under the settings panel, users can set the Tap Time of this function as “Fast”, “Default” and “Slow”. The default setting provides normal haptic feedback, while the slow option takes some time and the fast option feels like 3D Touch functionality.

However, when you press and hold on a photo, link or contact information, that data preview will open faster.

3D Touch was introduced with the iPhone 6S and is available up to iPhone XS models running iOS 14. With the iPhone 11 series, the company removed the hardware used for this feature and silently disabled it by bringing software updates to all iPhones.

Although very useful, not every Apple user knew how to take advantage of it, as it required a touch other than holding the screen or just tapping. At the time, the best way to understand this functionality was to re-enact a Live Photo, which Apple now activates by tapping and pressing the image, not the object. Otherwise, the system detects it as a move to convert the object to PNG.

If you miss 3D Touch and you are running iOS 17 beta, you can follow the steps below.

  • Go to Accessibility under Settings.
  • Tap on Haptic touch from the Tap tab
  • And finally select Tap Time.
