With the iPhone X models, Apple has switched to a notched design on its screens. The notch design of the manufacturer, which has long adopted this design, including Mac models, is now iconic. Offering us a different notch design with the iPhone 14 Pro models, Apple is preparing to say goodbye to the notches in the near future.
Apple patents notchless display
The notches on Apple devices host Face ID and ambient light sensors as well as the camera. Technologies used in this section, especially Face ID, have prevented Apple from using a notchless design until now. However, a patent obtained by Apple in Europe seems to completely change this situation.
The fact that the cameras and sensors in the notch receive enough light is the biggest factor in the efficient operation of these devices. Apple, on the other hand, believes that it has brought a solution to this problem with its patent. The company intends to eliminate the problem by adding transparent areas to its screens that will allow the necessary amount of light to enter for these components.
Apple believes that by adding transparent areas to the screen, all necessary components can get all the light they need and be hidden under the main screen. Of course, this situation brings with it some question marks: Wouldn’t the transparent sections on the screen spoil the overall image?
The answer to this question is also available in the patent the company has received. Apple states that these transparent sections will be as small as possible and invisible to the naked eye. It is stated that the holes, which will be one 10 millionth of a millimeter in size, will not have any negative effects during use.
While we’ve seen notchless designs from other brands before, Apple seemed to lag behind in this regard. With this patent, we will be able to see iPhone and MacBook models without a notch in the future. So what do you think about a possible notchless iPhone model?
