Micron introduced its first UFS 4.0 compatible storage devices on Wednesday. Introduced storage devices bring a new breath to storage on smartphones. New storage devices that can reach SSD speeds in computers were introduced. So how will this happen?

How will SSD speed be provided on smartphones?

Micron’s latest generation of single-module smartphone storage devices will be the fastest storage devices ever, offering a combination of improvements from the UFS specification as well as incorporating newer, faster NAND into storage devices. UFS 4 devices are expected to be used in flagship smartphones and tablets that will hit the market this year.

Micron’s UFS 4.0 storage devices will be available in three capacities: 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. High-end 512GB and 1TB UFS 4.0 products will use Micron’s 232-layer six-plane 1TB 3D TLC NAND devices and can provide sequential read speeds of up to 4,300MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 4,000MB.

This makes them the highest-performing UFS storage modules for smartphones to date, according to data provided by Micron. However, it is worth noting that it will be slightly lower than these speeds for devices with 256 GB capacity models.

In addition to offering higher performance than previous models, Micron’s UFS 4.0 modules are said to have 25% higher energy efficiency, achieved by the combination of higher performance and energy saving capabilities. This makes them modules that are both more powerful and use less energy.

In addition, with Micron UFS 4.0 modules, smartphone manufacturers will be able to make their devices thinner. In addition, it will be possible for them to fit a higher capacity battery. Micron is currently testing UFS 4.0 storage modules with leading smartphone manufacturers. These modules are expected to be used in the coming months after starting mass production in the second half of the year.
