Opera has announced the general availability of its productive AI-packed browser. Opera One is now out of early access and is available to everyone on Windows, Mac and Linux. You can download the scanner from the company’s website.
Opera has an integrated artificial intelligence (AI) called Aria that you can access from the sidebar. You can use a keyboard shortcut (CTRL or Command key and /) to start using Aria. AI is also featured in Opera’s Android browser.
The AI is the result of Opera’s partnership with OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT. Aria connects to GPT to help answer users’ queries. In addition to using live information from the web, the AI is also capable of generating text or code and can answer support questions about Opera products. In addition, Opera One can generate contextual prompts for Aria when you right-click or highlight text in the browser. If you prefer to use ChatGPT or ChatSonic, these are also available from the Opera One sidebar.
Opera says users who don’t want to use AI won’t be forced into it. It’s also worth noting that you will first need to be signed into an Opera account to use Aria.
Opera One’s modular design
In addition to its new features, Opera One has a new look based on modular design principles. Opera says this will help the browser adapt to users’ needs by revealing key features. “Related modules within Opera One will automatically adjust based on context, providing the user with a more fluid and effortless browsing experience,” a blog post says.
Opera hopes to get rid of tab clutter with a feature it calls tab islands. Opera One can group together related tabs, such as hotels and routes you might be looking at for an itinerary, or any Google Docs you’ve opened for a business project.
In addition, there are some changes and adjustments to the basics of the browser. Opera used a new architecture with a multi-threaded assembler to offer a faster and smoother user interface. The company says this approach will also help add new features and make Opera One different from other Chromium-based browsers, adding that more AI-focused updates are on the way this year.
