With the iPhone X introduced in 2017, Apple brought the facial recognition system Face ID to iPhones. The feature began to appear on iPad models later on. Users have long wondered when this useful system will come to Mac models.

Now, a patent taken by Apple has revealed that the expected can come true. The patent, which was noticed by Patently Apple and approved by the US Trademark Patent Office (USTPO), indicates that the feature could come to Macs.

We may see Face ID on Macbooks with M3

According to the patent, Apple wants to bring Face ID to their computers. It is also stated that in addition to the Mac, the system can also be used for e-mail access, just like in iPhones. When we look at the drawings, we can see that this is possible with the cameras to be placed on the screen. Patently Apple adds that the approved patent dates back to 2008, a year after the iPhone was introduced. In other words, the company has been wanting to bring this feature to computers for a long time.

There’s no word yet on when Apple might bring the feature to Macs. However, rumors indicate that it may be included in the Macbook Air or Macbook Pro with the M3 processor, which is expected to be introduced next year. We’ll see if this is true when these computers debut.

It can be said that the tech giant is a little late to bring Face ID to Macs. Windows has had a facial recognition application called “Windows Hello” for years.
