It is a known fact that employees caught in COVID-19 cause significant disruptions in the supply chain for many companies. A similar situation has been occurring recently at Samsung Digital City in Suwon, South Korea. Confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported at the facility. 11 employees of the mobile business unit in building R5 contracted COVID-19. Samsung’s steps to contain the epidemic threaten to derail the Galaxy Tab S8 and Galaxy S22 launch plans. Looks like Samsung will delay Galaxy Tab S8 to save Galaxy S22
Previously, when cases of COVID-19 were detected, Samsung was on its way to shutting down the entire facility. Employees, on the other hand, worked from home and only entered the facility on a rotating basis. This time around, however, Samsung is reportedly taking a different approach.
70% of the employees in the R5 building will work from home and 30% will work on site. This will continue until the end of this year. For those who don’t know, let’s say it: R5 is where the development work for the new Galaxy devices is done.
The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8 series are the new flagship products that Samsung will launch early next year. Most of the people at R5 are understandably involved in the development of these devices. Those working at home will naturally not have access to equipment available in the field. They will also not be able to have development samples of the devices, as Samsung will not allow samples of unreleased products to be removed from the facility.
This situation also puts the employees who will work in the field in a difficult situation. Is Samsung prioritizing teams working on the Galaxy S22 series or teams on the Galaxy Tab S8? The answer, of course, is that it will prioritize the Galaxy S22 series.
Therefore, the estimates are that the launch of the Galaxy Tab S8 will likely be delayed to ensure that the Samsung Galaxy S22 series can be released on time.
