According to the statement made by Oculus this week, the Galaxy S10 series will stop supporting the Gear VR platform with the release of Android 12 and One UI 4.0 this year. If Gear VR has been one of the main reasons you’ve ever used the Galaxy S10, you may have to make a tough choice by December. You can continue to use Gear VR with Android 11 on the Galaxy S10, or you will have to give up the VR platform for Android 12 and One UI 4.0.

However, it is important to remember that the Gear VR platform is living its last days. Samsung discontinued the Gear VR headset a few years ago and discontinued its XR service last year. In short, the Gear VR is no longer on Samsung’s priority list anyway, and it was only a matter of time before Oculus pulled the plug.

Samsung prematurely announced a roadmap the other day that includes its One UI 4.0 (Android 12) launch plans. In this roadmap, it was said that the Galaxy S10 series would get the One UI 4.0 update in January 2022, but Oculus’ statement suggests a different date.

According to the press release regarding Gear VR support, the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10 5G will start receiving Android 12 and One UI 4.0 in December. The update started rolling out for the Galaxy S21 series early last week.
