Statement from Ripple CEO on the Progress of the SEC Case
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse stated in a video shared on Twitter that the US financial watchdog acted in a “malicious, obvious and simple” manner. Garlinghouse warned that this is only the beginning of the battle for many other crypto companies and that the struggle for regulatory clarity must continue.
As part of the ongoing litigation process between Ripple and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), regarding the Hinman Documents disclosed on June 13, Garlinghouse released a video to discuss the timeline of the lawsuit and express his frustration with the SEC.
In the video released June 17, Garlinghouse claimed that the Hinman documents, now publicly available, have “intentionally created confusion about the rules and exploited that confusion through enforcement” by the SEC.

Garlinghouse was fiercely critical of the SEC’s actions, clearly comparing them to a “malicious, plain and simple” case. Garlinghouse said the SEC’s filing of the lawsuit “just days before Christmas” in December 2020 was a “pretty striking touch” and that that stance was “the definition of putting politics above the people and pursuing power over sound policy.”
