In the case of iPhone 13, there are production problems due to the chip problem. But it seems clear that this does not present an obstacle for the consumer technology community to encounter leaks and allegations about what the next model might look like.

Naturally, we don’t know much about the specs or even the pricing of the next iPhone right now, but a number of credible design whispers are starting to circulate in the internet rumor rooms. If these rumors are true, we may encounter an iPhone that will undergo a major redesign.

Once again the notch claim

One of the biggest rumors is about the iPhone 14 giving up the notch. After the notch debuted on the iPhone X in 2017, Apple may finally abandon the notch next year. According to Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo, the company will come up with a smaller camera hole on the Pro models instead of the notch. The punch-hole design refers to a display with only a small circular cutout for the front camera, as seen on a number of Samsung’s recent phones, including the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 3.

A complete redesign

The notch houses the components that make Face ID work; So Apple needs to downsize all this technology to make a notchless iPhone a reality. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also pointed to this change when he said in the September issue of the Power On newsletter that he envisions a “complete redesign” for the iPhone 14.

The end of the camera bump?

Another design feature that is said to be on Apple’s list is the camera bump. The iPhone 13 series has a protruding camera block that houses two or three lenses, depending on the model. According to Jon Prosser, the iPhone of the future could eliminate this protrusion completely, which could mean a thicker case to house the camera components.

Titanium instead of stainless steel

Talking about the iPhone’s case, Prosser also says that the iPhone 14 Pro may have a titanium alloy body instead of stainless steel for the first time. This rumor was first cited by JP Morgan Chase’s China office in a July report. Apple has previously used titanium alloy in some Apple Watch models, including Series 7. Titanium alloy is used because it is a lighter material than stainless steel. In addition, titanium has a structure that is more resistant to scratches, corrosion and bending.

When is the foldable iPhone?

As for folding, it is not possible to say for sure whether we will encounter a foldable iPhone. A Bloomberg report in January said that Apple already has a working prototype of a foldable iPhone screen, but has not confirmed a launch timeline. Other news sources, including Taiwan’s Economic Daily, have identified 2022 as the year the foldable iPhone will appear. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revised his forecast to 2024 instead of the previous 2023.
