In the past, there have been many negative reports about the NVIDIA RTX 4090 graphics card about heating. It is stated by many users that the connection points of the company’s new graphics card have melted. Now, a new claim seems to make the situation worse for NVIDIA.
NVIDIA RTX 4090 threatens power supplies
A Reddit user named Shiftyeyes67k stated that the 12VHPWR cable supplied with the RTX 4090 graphics card melted on the power supply (PSU) side. While previous users stated that the cable had melted at the connection point with the video card, this new claim reveals that the situation is much more serious.
The user, who said that he started to smell burnt plastic coming from the power supply (BeQuiet Dark Power 13 1000w) recently, stated that he decided to change this supply. After opening the computer, the user realizes that there are burns on the PSU side of the 12VHPWR cable.
The fact that the power supply that feeds the whole computer has such a problem has made NVIDIA users nervous. A 12VHPWR cable can also damage the PSU itself if it gets hot enough to melt right next to the power supply. And this can potentially cause even bigger problems with computers.
Nvidia previously investigated the problem of melting 12VHPWR connectors and concluded that the problem was caused by user error. The company stated that if the cables are not fully inserted into the graphics card, there is a risk of overheating and melting of the connectors.
While the 12VHPWR connectors continue to cause problems, it is not yet clear who caused the error. Besides the possibility that these cables are indeed faulty, users may still have trouble installing them correctly. In both cases, computer users need to be very careful.
While it was stated in the previous complaints that the cables were burnt on the video card side, now the problems on the power supply side threaten all computer components of the users.
