Activision Blizzard deal temporarily blocked
For those who don’t know, the Activision Blizzard deal was expected to be completed by the end of fiscal year 2023. However, doubting that the deal would be concluded at an earlier date, the FTC requested injunctive relief, asking the two companies to stop the deals between them before June 15. He also expressed concerns about Diablo IV’s success, cloud gaming and retail sales, in addition to this demand.
Today, a US federal judge has ruled that the merger cannot take place until five days after the injunction is finalized. According to the ruling, by June 22 and 23, the court must hear the FTC’s request for injunctive relief. So both companies will have to wait until the end of this month before they can resume their plans at the earliest.
On the other hand, it should be noted that both Activision Blizzard and Microsoft responded positively to the decision. So much so that Microsoft’s president and vice president, Brad Smith, thinks that the injunction will speed up the process. Another Microsoft official stated that a temporary extension decision seems reasonable compared to a quick decision by the Court.
