READING NOW Protest on Reddit continues: Employees have been warned that there may be an attack!

Reddit, one of the largest social media platforms in the world, recently made API support for third-party applications paid. Then the users who rebelled against it started a protest on the platform. Today, the CEO of Reddit sent a warning to employees to be careful. Here are the details…

CEO Steve Huffman: Don’t wear clothes with the Reddit logo outside!

Users are angry that Reddit is making API support for a fee. Because the Apollo application, which was published by a third-party developer and preferred by platform users instead of the main application, will also be closed for this reason. Because the application was thought to offer a better interface, and therefore it was used by hundreds of thousands of people.

After Reddit announced that it would make API support for a fee, the developer of the Apollo application announced that the application would be closed. Thereupon, a massive protest officially started across the platform. Many of the communities with hundreds of thousands of members have gone undercover to reduce Reddit’s earnings. In this way, they aim to reduce the interaction as the posts will not fall on the home page.

Today, the CEO of Reddit, Steve Huffman, emphasized in an email to his employees that they did not notice a serious change in earnings and that company decisions are more important than what users want.

He cautioned, however, to be careful when wearing an outfit with the Reddit logo outside and they could be attacked by users angry at the decision. The relevant email of Steve Huffman is as follows;

So far we have not noticed a significant impact on revenue and will continue to monitor that.

There’s a lot of noise about it. One of the loudest we’ve seen. Please know that our teams have been notified of this and like all blasts on Reddit, this too shall pass.

Sorry I have to say this, but please be careful when wearing Reddit outfits in public. Some people are really angry and we don’t want you to be the target of their anger.

Steve Huffman

It is thought that Reddit will take a step back in making API support paid. Because many third-party applications have announced that they will be closed, and the number of communities that make themselves private is increasing.

So what do you guys think about this issue? Do you think the protests against Reddit’s decision will end? You can share your views with us in the Comments section below.
