Apple has rolled up its sleeves for updated MacBook Air models that include the M3 chip. These new 15-inch MacBooks will hit the market in 2024, offering significant performance and power efficiency improvements over their predecessors.

The MacBook Air lineup consists of a 13-inch model introduced in June 2022 and a recently-released 15-inch version. Both models use Apple’s M2 chip, which is manufactured using TSMC’s 5nm process. However, the M3 chip will be built on TSMC’s 3nm process, which will lead to notable CPU and GPU performance improvements.

It is stated that the M3 chip will have similar CPU and GPU core counts to the M2 chip. This continuity in core counts indicates that Apple has focused on the M3 chip, optimizing power efficiency and overall system performance.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman confirmed that Apple is simultaneously developing new iMac and 13-inch MacBook Pro models with the M3 chip. The new iMac, which is scheduled to launch early next year, is expected to retain the current design language introduced in 2020.

A recent benchmark test revealed that the M2 Ultra performs 2x faster than the fastest Intel-based Mac. The M3 chip is expected to offer performance efficiency for the new MacBook Air models.

The 15-inch MacBook Air, which is expected to cost $1,299, offers a few key differences compared to its 13-inch counterpart. Most importantly, it has a larger screen and six speakers instead of four. Also, Apple has started using a new 70W USB-C power adapter for the MacBook Air series, replacing the old 67W adapter. When purchasing a 15-inch MacBook Air, users can choose between a 35W Dual USB charger and a 70W adapter.
