Multi-year contract signed
Before Elon Musk took over the social media platform last year, Twitter signed a multi-year contract with Google to fight spam and protect accounts, the report said. The platformer report did not elaborate on how the conflict between the companies would negatively impact Twitter’s trust & security teams. The Information said Twitter has been trying to renegotiate its contract with Google since March.
Amazon also warned in March
The platformer said Twitter hosts some services on its own server, while others host it on Amazon (AMZN.O) and Google’s cloud platforms. In March, Amazon warned Twitter that the company would stop paying ads for cloud computing services due to unpaid bills to Amazon Web Services.
Since Musk’s acquisition, Twitter has drastically reduced its costs and laid off thousands of its employees. A source said that Musk had instructed the company to reduce infrastructure costs, such as cloud services spending, by $1 billion.
