Last February, Google announced that it would discontinue support for Windows 7 and Windows 8 versions of Chrome. Continuing its work in this context, the software giant will now make a similar decision for the cloud storage service Google Drive. Google Drive support for 32-bit operating systems, Windows 7, Windows 8 and 8.1 will be discontinued very soon. Here are the details.

Google Drive is cutting support for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1

Google, which issued a new warning in the past hours, announced that the company will discontinue Google Drive support in Windows 8/8.1, Windows Server 2012 and all 32-bit versions of Windows. According to the new statement, users with 32-bit Windows versions will not be able to use the application after August. So from this date, users need to upgrade to 64-bit Windows 10 or higher Windows 11.

On the other hand, it should be noted that users with old operating systems can access the storage service through the browser. We can also say that the new news is not surprising. According to reports shared in May, Windows 8.1 had a share of only 0.72 percent of the global Windows market. This figure is followed by Windows 8 and Windows 7 (3.61%) with a rate of 0.37 percent.

In addition, Google Drive is not the only application that cuts support for older generation operating systems. Recently, Mozilla, one of the leading names in the browser market, announced that Firefox support for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 versions will end. At this point, users will have 15 more months until September 2024.
