Spotify has decided to lay off 200 people, or about 2 percent of its workforce, in its podcast episode. Spotify is moving to a more “custom approach” optimizing resources for each podcast creator and show, and the streaming service believes this requires a leaner team. In Turkish, savings are made in the podcast section.

Configuring Spotify Podcast business

According to the new strategy, Spotify will combine the Gimlet and Parcast production centers in the renewed Spotify Studios unit. While there will be a new emphasis on regular content reaching large audiences, Gimlet and Parcast will continue to produce well-known original programs and launch new shows. Spotify as a whole will work to “maximize the consumption” of the current audience and encourage them to listen to podcasts more often and more. The firm is also growing Spotify For Podcasters analytics, improving its advertising options, and adding “more business models” to help creators profit.

Additionally, Spotify seems keen to voice its growth since it began investing heavily in podcasts in 2019, including the acquisition of Gimlet, Parcast, and creator platform Anchor. Spotify currently claims to be the most popular podcast platform in “most corners” of the planet, with over 100 million listeners and 5 million shows. The firm says usage has also increased by over 1,400 percent. It also says it’s the best broadcaster in the US.

Spotify reportedly took a number of programs off air last fall, laying off about 5 percent of its podcast team in the process. The service also laid off 6 percent of its total staff in January, and its chief content officer Dawn Ostroff (known for magnifying podcast content 40x) resigned. The company may be a powerhouse in this category, but it’s no longer as secure as it used to be.
