These Altcoin Investors Beware: There Is A Phishing Attack!

These altcoin investors fell victim to a phishing attack

A Pepe (PEPE) investor lost $453.0000 worth of tokens earlier today after clicking a link in his wallet confirming a malicious transaction. The attacker stole over 356 billion PEPEs from the victim’s address 0x9ea22 in two transactions. The phishing scam addresses 0xfb4d3 and 0xfd178 were associated with Inferno Drainer, a scam as a service provider. According to Scam Sniffer, the hacker specializes in multi-chain fraud and usually gets 20% of stolen assets.

Data from Dune Analytics showed that scammers were responsible for stealing over $7 million in assets from more than 5000 victims. Usually, scammers have created around 700 phishing sites targeting various trending projects since March 27.

Meanwhile, another user in the comments claimed that they lost 2.7 billion PEPE in the same phishing scam and are now looking for ways to get the funds back.

Another identity thief made $2.3 million from 880 victims

Another phishing scammer, Pink Drainer, stole around $110,000 after hacking the Twitter account of OpenAI CTO Mira Murati and using it to support a phishing scam.

According to Dune analytics data, the scammer currently has a total of 880 victims who have earned $2.3 million. ERC-20 tokens gained access to several wallets via phishing links by stealing ETH and NFTs.

The same hacker was responsible for the hacking of the Orbiter Finance Discord server on June 1. In this attack, he stole $213,000 from the victims. Before then, they were also behind the eth_ben quote tweet phishing scam. At that time, the hacker had 484 victims.

Scam Sniffer also said that the hacker is very prolific when it comes to phishing websites. However, it reported that it had created over 85 websites in the last two months alone. The biggest loser so far has been a user who lost $297,000 worth of NFTs to the scammer. These include 8 Otherside Codas, 1 Bored Ape, 1 Mutant Ape, and 11 Otherdeed.

Scammers target meme tokens

The emergence of scam providers as a service highlights the level of sophistication phishing scams have reached in the crypto ecosystem. In May, several scam gangs created dozens of fraudulent tokens that mimic popular memecoins, Peckshield says in a report on the matter:
