According to a new study conducted in Canada, individuals who think that they are not ‘manly’ enough eat more red meat to suppress their feelings. Stating that meat eating is generally perceived as “masculine” by some societies, the research suggests that red meat also strengthens this feeling.
The research team said, “From the results we have obtained, we see that individuals who think that they are not ‘masculine’ enough can go to ways to strengthen their masculinity through the food they consume. The reason for this finding is that a previous study involving both men and women showed that eating red meat was associated with qualities such as masculinity and sexual power.
It is said that ‘the reason may also be advertisements’:
IT TASTE MORE BEAUTIFUL
The research says that the higher meat consumption by men may also be due to subliminal advertising. A total of 300 respondents from the UK, USA, and Canada who felt they weren’t masculine enough were brought together. However, thirteen of the participants were excluded from the study because they said they were vegan. The remaining 287 participants were asked whether they would buy The Butcher Box, which includes 8 steaks, 24 sausages and three kilos of ground meat, called the ‘butcher box’. Immediately after, they were asked to express their thoughts on the connection between masculinity and food.
While most of the participants said that they thought some dishes were more masculine and some dishes more feminine, some of them commented that “man eats meat”. However, it was determined that the people who made these comments were the individuals who doubted their masculinity the most. Finally, the research highlights the impact of meat consumption on greenhouse gas emissions and its negative consequences on our planet. What are your thoughts on this subject?
