A heartwarming news has come from China, which is one of the countries with the most endangered pandas. An infrared camera in the Wolong National Nature Reserve in Sichuan has captured the world’s only albino panda. Known as the only one of its kind, the panda does not have black spots anywhere on its body. The panda’s eyes are red.
Scientists who made evaluations about the albino panda, which was displayed for the first time, think that it is a cub. However, our one or two year old cub is about as big as an adult panda. So, if this albino was single, how was gene transfer achieved?
Baby’s mother has black spots
Camera footage from Wolong National Nature Reserve followed the panda for a while. At the end of the work, it is seen that he goes to a female panda, who is thought to be the mother of the albino panda. Here is a noteworthy point. The mother panda needs to keep this albino away from her cubs. However, such a thing did not happen. Experts think that because of this, the black-spotted panda is the mother, and the cub is albino due to a genetic mutation.
This does not mean that the albino panda cannot survive. Chinese scientists state that the only albino panda identified may be albino cubs like himself. But we have no way of knowing if that will one day be true. Experts stated that the panda caught on camera will continue to be watched.
