80-year-old American director Martin Scorsese is undoubtedly one of the most important filmmakers of all time. Scorsese, who has made his mark in many legendary films such as Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Departed and many more, will soon appear with his new movie, Killers of the Flower Moon, starring Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Scorsese went on a tour of Italy last weekend after the Cannes Film Festival, where his new film was shown. The famous director talked about his new movie while having an important meeting.
Scorsese, who met with the Pope, announced that he would make a movie about Jesus.
Scorsese, who had a brief meeting with the Pope at the Vatican on Saturday, said in a statement afterward that he would make a film focused on Jesus, using the phrase “I answered the Pope’s call to artists in the only way I know: by writing a movie about Jesus”.
The legendary filmmaker added that he was about to start working on the film, signaling that this could be his next film. No other details about the movie were shared.
Scorsese, who was raised as a Catholic, is known for being religious. The effect of this situation can be seen in the life and films of the director. He had directed a 1988 film based on Nikos Kazantzakis’ novel titled “The Last Temptation of Christ” focusing on the human side of Jesus. This movie caused some controversy in the way it portrayed Jesus at the time.
We also saw a religion-oriented movie called “Silence”, which was released in 2016. Referring to both films in his speech, Scorsese described Silence as “the next step in his research on the figure of Jesus”. The film, which was also shown in the Vatican, was about the persecution of two priests in 17th century Japan.
