Apple is shutting down the My Photo Stream feature it introduced with iCloud in 2011. My Photo Stream is a free feature to sync photos between iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV. However, it has been overshadowed by the arrival of the iCloud Photo Library feature.

My Photo Stream feature is being removed!

My Photo Stream uploads the most recent photos except Live Photos and lets you view and save them from all your devices. Your photos are stored here for 30 days. iCloud photos also uploads all media to iCloud and keeps it up to date on all your devices. Apple’s statement is in this direction. My Photo Stream requires active gallery saving, doesn’t back up to iCloud, and doesn’t sync photos in high quality.

Photos will not sync for free

iCloud Photos syncs your photos and videos between your devices in high resolution without manual action. The only limitation is how much iCloud storage you have on your subscription plan. Apple has been offering 5GB of free iCloud space since 2011. Starting July 26, it will no longer sync any photos for free. Since My Photo Stream stores photos for 30 days, the deadline for downloading photos from My Photo Stream to the device is June 26.
