Artificial intelligence assistant is coming to Windows 11
Windows Copilot will live in the taskbar. Clicking on it will open the Copilot sidebar where you can ask it to summarize, rewrite and annotate the texts in the applications you use and adjust the settings of your computer. Microsoft says it will start testing the feature publicly next month before rolling it out to more users.
Windows 11 is also getting a few other minor updates, including support for Bluetooth LE, a low-energy audio feature that lets you enjoy high-quality audio without draining your device’s battery life. Microsoft is also adding support for 10 new languages and dialects to live captions with real-time transcription of audio, as well as native RGB controls in Windows 11.
Add-on support to Microsoft 365 Copilot
The AI assistant will now support three main types of plugins, including Teams message extensions, Power Platform connections, and tools using ChatGPT technology. You will also be able to choose from dozens of third-party plug-ins such as Atlassian and Adobe.
Also, Microsoft says it will build all Copilot and Bing Chat plugins with the same standard OpenAI uses for ChatGPT. This means you can use the same plug-ins across all three AI-powered tools, and developers will have an easier time creating them. Obviously this universal plugin support is a serious step forward.
365 Copilot integration into Microsoft Edge
For example, Copilot will make it possible to do things like draft emails, add data to the spreadsheet, create status updates based on conversation topics, and more. Meanwhile, Edge integration will also support the aforementioned add-ons coming to 365 Copilot.
Artificial intelligence doping into Windows Terminal
Windows Terminal gets an AI-powered chatbot thanks to integration with GitHub Copilot. Developers using GitHub Copilot can now use the chatbot directly in Terminal to perform various actions, get code suggestions, and debug. Microsoft also says it plans to bring GitHub Copilot to other developer tools like WinDBG.
However, this is not the only developer-focused update Microsoft has announced. Also introduced is a new Dev Home app that will make it easier to set up and use Windows developer machines. In addition, Microsoft is bringing AI-generated app review summaries to the Microsoft store and is rolling out a new AI Hub to highlight AI-enabled Windows apps.
Bing is now ChatGPT’s default search engine
While Microsoft has previously announced that it will make OpenTable and WolframAlpha plugins available for Bing, it is expanding the repository greatly. Bing will soon support plugins from Expedia, Instacart, Kayak, Klarna, Redfin, TripAdvisor, Zillow and more.
