Although the performance of gaming processors often attracts attention, AMD’s processors have made serious leaps in power efficiency over the past few years. As part of the company’s goal to bring even better battery life to mobile devices, new 6nm Ryzen and Athlon 7020-C series APU processors for Chromebooks were announced today.

New Ryzen and Athlon 7020-C series

The new AMD processors will power Chromebooks in the $300 to $500 range. According to AMD, Ryzen and Athlon 7020-C series processors can provide up to 19.5 hours of battery life on Chromebooks. Dell and Asus laptops using these APUs will go on sale this quarter.
The new silicon will come with four chips produced with a 6 nanometer manufacturing process. The most powerful chip, the Ryzen 5 7520C, has four CPU cores and eight threads running at speeds up to 4.3GHz. All processors also include a built-in Radeon 610M GPU that can support up to three 4K 60Hz external displays. Likewise, the TDP value of all processors is set as 15W.
As you may remember, about a year ago, AMD launched the Ryzen 5000 C-Series, designed for premium Chromebooks over $500. These new series of AMD come with superior performance and efficiency arguments compared to Intel and MediaTek’s solutions. The Red team says that depending on the application running, users can expect up to 80 percent performance improvement over Arm-based chips and up to 15 percent improvement over Intel-based processors.
