Netflix’s South Korean original Squid Game, which has become a phenomenon all of a sudden and has achieved significant viewing numbers, seems to have received its second season approval. “You don’t leave us any choice,” said Hwang Dong-hyuk, creator of the South Korean hit series, which has become Netflix’s most popular series ever, in an interview.
Hwang has said before that he wants to make a movie, but it looks like he will now direct his work towards the second season of Squid Game. In an interview translated from Korean by the Associated Press, Hwang said, “There will really be a second season. It’s in my head right now,” adding: “I’m in the planning process right now.”
Netflix has not yet made an official statement about the second season. Moreover, it chooses not to respond to requests for comments. But Hwang’s explanation is pretty clear and solid proof to look forward to new Squid Game adventures.
While Hwang stated that it’s too early to tell when the second season will arrive on Netflix, he clarified that the main character Gi-hun will return and “do something for the world”. Season 1 ended with an ending that promised just that.
