Apple has been criticized for not paying attention to the rise of ChatGPT, Google Bard, Microsoft Bing and other similar artificial intelligence tools for a while. But this may change in the near future. The company posted 28 job opportunities in the field of artificial intelligence this month, which is a clear indication that Apple is ready to invest in this technology.

As spotted by 9to5Mac, one of these job opportunities includes the role of Visual Generative Modeling Research Engineer. The statement states that the role will be part of “a group that will shape the way generative AI technologies transform Apple’s mobile computing platforms.”

It is not yet clear what exactly these roles, which seem to have a pretty big goal, mean for users. But the number of roles currently open and the language used in their descriptions suggest Apple is approaching productive AI very seriously.

Of course, there are a lot of artificial intelligence elements already built into Apple products, from systems that support your photo-taking and finding abilities to Siri’s voice commands. But productive AI work can take the capabilities of products to a whole new level. In fact, it is remarkable that a name like SiriGPT is mentioned in some rumors.

Recent reports show that Apple is aware that it is lagging behind other names such as OpenAI, Microsoft and Google in the artificial intelligence race. So it’s clear that Apple needs to act much more seriously to compete in this space.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has said in previous interviews that recent developments in productive AI have been “very interesting”, but he also said Apple would be “careful and thoughtful” in its approach to technology.
