Neeva, a US startup founded by former Google employees, announced that it will shut down its search engine. Offering a subscription fee, Neeva offers an ad-free experience and does not include any surveillance tools to monitor users’ search activities or collect personal data.The Neeva search engine will cease operations on June 2, 2023. The developers, who said that creating a quality search engine is not as difficult as attracting users to it, also noted that it is not possible to fully compete with Google and other search engines, since they are used by default in most popular browsers.
It will focus on artificial intelligence projects
Neeva was launched in the summer of 2021 as an ad-free and user-privileged search engine. The subscription price was set at $4.95 per month. The biggest challenge was convincing users to pay to use this product. Since all the alternatives were free, it was difficult to get users to accept the idea that a search engine could be paid.
After shutting down the search engine, Neeva plans to focus on product development using neural networks and artificial intelligence. The first project will be for the creation of language models, meaning it will be able to generate texts in the same way as ChatGPT, which has taken the tech world by storm lately.
