The World Meteorological Organization announced that the world has begun to fall under the influence of the El Niño weather phenomenon in a statement made recently. The organization stated that in the next 5 years, global temperatures will increase in an unprecedented way and for the first time, the Earth will warm more than 1.5 degrees. Now, a new study reveals the economic cost of the El Nino hot air pattern.

The damage will be trillions of dollars.

The El Niño weather event will cause $3 trillion in damage to the global economy, according to the study published this week in the journal Science. When the El Nino weather event occurs, weather around the world will be affected. El Nino will potentially be fueling more severe flooding in some places and worsening drought in others.

Typically seen every two to seven years, El Nino is expected to develop between May and July this year. The research also touches upon the costs of previous El Niño weather events. Researchers who analyzed the 1982-83 El Niño state that it damaged the global economy by 4.1 trillion dollars in five years. Another El Nino that occurred between 1997-1998 cost the world $5.7 trillion in revenue loss.

According to some, this $3 trillion loss could increase even more. Because the Earth is just emerging from the three-year effect of the La Nina weather phenomenon, which caused the opposite of the warming effects of El Nino. Even while the La Nina weather event was taking place, there have been many different and powerful weather events in the past years. It is stated that the fueling effects of El Nino will seriously multiply these effects. It is expected that the economies in tropical countries will take a big hit, which will continue for almost 10 years.
