If you are using the Android version of Chrome, you may be familiar with the incredibly useful screen capture tool. Google plans to bring the same utility to the desktop version of the browser now. Moreover, it looks like it will make a valuable addition to the desktop version.

The screen capture tool in the Share menu in Android Chrome makes it possible to take a screenshot and share it with others or send it to another application. Google thinks it would be helpful to add an image editing tool with similar functionality to the desktop.

To activate the screen capture tool in Chrome for PC, simply follow the steps below:

  • First of all, you need to have the Chrome 98 Canary version.
  • Open the Chrome app and go to chrome://flags.
  • Go to Desktop Screenshots section and enable the Enabled option.
  • Go to Desktop Sharing Hub in App Menu and enable the Enabled option.
  • Close and open Chrome

After that, when you press the Share button in the address bar, you will be able to mark the desired part of the web page you are on with the mouse and take a screenshot. The received image is copied to the clipboard, after which you can edit it with a picture editing program or send it to anyone you want by a method such as e-mail. You can also save it to your computer’s hard drive if you want.

If you want to edit images from within Chrome, follow the steps below to activate the basic image editor:

  • First of all, you need to have the Chrome 98 Canary version.
  • Open the Chrome app and go to chrome://flags.
  • Go to Desktop Screenshots Edit Mode and activate the Enabled option.
  • Close and open Chrome.

From now on, when you take a screenshot, you will be able to edit the image by pressing the Edit button.
