Apple is a company that is often associated with the terms “privacy and security”. It is a known fact that the main policy of the company is to protect the privacy of its users as much as possible. In fact, Apple chooses not to add some features to its products deliberately to ensure this privacy.
Tim Cook, CEO of technology giant Apple from Cupertino, made a rather surprising statement today. Cook explained that some iOS users would be better off switching to Android.
Is it worth it for a few apps?
The reason Tim Cook made this statement was the criticism of some iOS users about not installing external applications on their phones (sideload). As it is known, it is almost impossible to install external applications on iPhones. The only solution is to overcome the obstacles of the phone using jailbreak and install applications from outside. However, jailbreak both carries security risks for phones and causes the phone to be out of warranty.
Cook said that it would be more accurate for iOS users who think it is important to install applications from outside, to switch to Android. Saying that Apple’s basic principle is privacy and security and that applications to be installed from the outside can be dangerous, Cook also stated that installing applications outside can be “deadly” for phones.
The European Union puts pressure on Apple
Although Cook has said that they will never allow external application installation on their devices, the European Union Commission has started to pressure Apple to “install applications from outside” in the past months. Although the Commission has been continuing its pressure lately, it seems that Apple will not give up its firm stance on this issue.
Although the Android platform allows external application installation for now, this situation has become more difficult with the latest updates. Many users think that external application installation will be removed in the later stages of Android 12 or Android 13.
