As you know, the RX 7900 XTX, introduced in December 2022, managed to be an ambitious competitor to Nvidia RTX 4080. However, there was no response from AMD to the RTX 4090. If we recall, the flagship solution of RDNA 3 architecture was showcased with 5nm Navi 31 XTX GPU, 12,288 cores, 2.5GHz clock speed, 58 billion transistors, 96MB Infinity cache, 384-bit memory bus and 24GB GDDR6 memories.
If we recall, AMD made various statements, including that the Navi 31 GPU die used in the Radeon RX 7900 XTX was “designed for 3 GHz”. We can say that the new results confirm this information. The modder, which removed the power limits of the RX 7900 XTX with the help of Elmor EVC2SE, successfully managed to reach 3.467 MHz speeds with the help of liquid cooling.
As for the results, the RX 7900 XTX compared to the RTX 4090 in Cyberpunk 2077 averages 42.50 FPS compared to its rival’s 49.31 FPS. Here, we can say that it lags behind the RTX 4090 by 16 percent. However, it should be noted that the RT settings are at maximum in these tests. In Call of Duty: Warzone, this difference is around 17 percent.In Time Spy tests, the modder reached a peak power usage of 708 watts using an Elmor Labs PMD-USB. This represents the power drawn from the card itself, not the total system power. However, considering that a cooling solution close to 500W was used in the tests, we can say that the results are not surprising.
When we look at the TimeSpy results, we see that the RX 7900 XTX is getting closer to its rival. The RX 7900 XTX scores 38,725 compared to the RTX 4090’s 41,262 score. In the 3DMark Port Royal Ray tests with ray tracing support, it should be noted that the difference has widened to a large extent. The RTX 4090 makes a 40 percent difference.The shared results bode well for the future of the RDNA 3 architecture. As a matter of fact, if AMD can reduce their power consumption, we can see the red team making an assertive return to the competition.
