The Apple WWDC 2023 event will kick off on June 5th. Among the new software of Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, iPhones, iOS 17 is the most curious. What will iOS 17 features be? Will iOS 17 offer innovations? We’ll get the answer on June 5th. Before the World Developers Conference, Apple introduced new accessibility features that will come to iPhones with iOS 17. Assistive Access interface option, Live Speech, Advanced Speech with Personal Voice are among the new features coming this year.

Assistive Access

The Assistive Access feature aims to help people with cognitive disabilities by not only showing the applications needed on the screen, but also making the selection of items easier.

This interface uses large text labels with high contrast buttons. For users who prefer to communicate visually, customizations such as an emoji keyboard and video message recording options are introduced in the Messages application. The Home Screen can be displayed with a grid-based layout with large icons or a row-based layout with small icons.

Live Talk, Personal Audio

The Live Talk feature, which can be used on iPads and Macs besides iPhone, allows users to type phrases they want to be read aloud during phone and FaceTime calls, as well as face-to-face meetings. Personal Voice, a feature for people who may lose their voice, such as those who have recently been diagnosed with ALS, offers a way to reproduce sound close to the user’s own voice by converting text to voice.

More accessibility features coming with iOS 17

  • Deaf or hard of hearing users will be able to pair and customize hearing aids made for iPhone directly with the Mac.
  • Phonetic suggestions for editing text have been added to Voice Control, and users can learn how to use voice commands as an alternative to tapping and typing on iPhone, iPad and Mac with the Voice Control Guide.
  • Using Switch Control, users with physical disabilities will be able to turn any key into a virtual game controller to play their favorite games on iPhone and iPad.
  • For low vision users, it’s now easier to adjust text size in Mac apps like Finder, Messages, Mail, Calendar, Notes.
  • Users sensitive to fast animations will be able to automatically pause images with animated elements such as GIFs in the Safari browser and Messages.
  • Siri voices are made more natural and expressive for VoiceOver users, and Siri’s speaking rate can be customized.
