It may seem strange to hear the news of the iPhone 16 before the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro series are released, but it’s normal in the whisper newspaper. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, who is known for his consistent leaks about Apple, next year’s iPhone 16 Pro models will both feature a periscope lens. This year’s iPhone 15 series is expected to have this camera system only in the iPhone 15 Pro Max model.

iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max features take shape

However, it is stated that the iPhone 16 Pro will be slightly larger than previous Pro models and the reason Apple was able to bring the periscope lens to both premium devices for the first time is because of the “larger interior space” provided by the new size. Last week, display industry analyst Ross Young claimed that Apple will adopt new screen sizes for both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models. While the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to have a screen size of 6.3 inches, it was stated that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a screen size of 6.9 inches. It seems that the two different claims confirm each other.

Larger screen and periscope camera on both models

In addition, the current iPhone 14 Pro has a screen size of 6.1 inches and the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a screen size of 6.7 inches. This year’s iPhone 15 models are all expected to retain the same dimensions as the iPhone 14 series. Kuo says that the supplier of the periscope camera system to be used in iPhone 16 Pro models will be Cowell. Meanwhile, the periscope camera system bends the light coming to the telephoto lenses, which we know, thanks to the angled mirrors, and directs it to the sensor. This allows users to zoom further without any blurring or other degradation in quality.

The system is expected to add 5-6x optical zoom to the iPhone 15 Pro (current iPhone 14 Pro supports up to 3x optical zoom). Kuo did not comment on whether the zoom range will be improved for the 2024 Pro and Pro Max models or remain the same as what is expected to feature exclusively on this year’s iPhone 15 Pro Max.
