Facebook has removed the block for the hashtag #Saltbae, which is identified with Nusret Gökçe, who has restaurants in many parts of the world. The label was banned after videos of Nusret feeding the Vietnamese Minister of Public Security with gold-plated steak at its London branch went viral on social media.

A spokesperson for Facebook’s umbrella company Meta made a statement to Reuters on the subject. He also stated that they do not know why the tag was blocked. Underlining that they continue to research on this issue, Meta spokesperson said, “We have unblocked this hashtag. We are also investigating the reason,” he said.

Meta unblocks #Saltbae worldwide

While #Saltbae was banned on the Facebook platform, users who searched or posted related to this hashtag were getting an error message that they violated the community rule. Facebook’s AI-powered algorithms did not allow the use of the hashtag in any way. It was unclear whether the ban was temporary or permanent.

On the other hand, the reason for the obstacle was not disclosed, but various conspiracy theories were put forward on social media. Facebook’s #Saltbae embargo focused on the possibility that footage of Nusret feeding a steak to Vietnam’s Minister of Public Security, To Lam, was part of the embargo. A Meta spokesperson did not confirm these rumors in a statement to Reuters.

Suffice it to say that they have lifted the ban on the label, the spokesperson said that the decision is valid all over the world. So not just in Vietnam, you can now use the hashtag #Saltbae on Facebook wherever you are. By the way, the video of eating steak was also blocked from TikTok for an unknown reason. For now, there has been no explanation from Nusret on the subject.

Nusret became popular with the viral “Ottoman Steak” video posted on his restaurant’s Twitter account on January 7, 2017. The #Saltbae movement, which is depicted as dropping salt from the fingertips to the forearm and then falling onto the plate, is identified with Nusret. Nusret Gökçe currently has close to 40 million followers on Instagram.
