The transition of companies such as Apple, Samsung and Google to their own chipsets pushed many smartphone manufacturers behind to this path. Although many of these companies tried to produce their own processors, none of them were successful as expected. It looks like Oppo will also make it to this list.

Oppo has stopped entering the processor market

Claims made in the last months of last year stated that Oppo established its own processor division. Having hired thousands of engineers for the project called Zeku, Oppo was planning to use the first processor of this division in 2024, but apparently the company canceled this project.

According to the news of the South China Morning Post, Oppo has stopped producing its own processors and has decided to close the “Zeku” division within the company. The firm stated that this decision was made very difficult and the global economic recession had an impact on this decision. If Oppo’s Zeku project had been successful, it would probably have been an important customer for Samsung Foundry or TSMC, but unfortunately the project did not materialize and China’s dreams of not being dependent on foreign countries were taken a step further.
