Epic’s popular software Unreal Engine 5 allows anyone to quickly build 3D worlds. Unreal Engine is great software not just for games, but for Hollywood virtual sets and more. Until now, Mac users needed Rosetta technology to run Unreal Engine. However, Epic has released version 5.2, which is supported by Macs with Apple Silicon architecture. This will significantly increase performance on M1 and M2 Macs.

New iPad app for virtual productions

Epic also introduced a new iPad app that works with Unreal Engine’s ICVFX (In-Camera VFX) editors for virtual productions. The company stated that the app offers a touch-based interface for scene operations such as color grading and nDisplay management tasks. In other words, cinematographers and VFX (visual effects) workers will easily carry out their work with devices with a simple interface and easy-to-know.

Other new features introduced with the Unreal Engine 5.2 update include the “Procedural Authoring Framework” that makes it faster to create large worlds. Another feature, called Substrate, allows creating material with greater control over the look and feel of objects used in real-time applications such as games.
