Google introduced many new products and services, from its first foldable phone to its new tablet, from Android 14 to innovations in applications, at its I/O event yesterday. He also shared his new AI moves, including things like the chatbot Bard and the AI-powered search engine.
What the company introduced at the event was not limited to these. The technology giant also showed a tool called “Project Gameface”. This technology has garnered a lot of attention as it turns your face into a mouse.
Project Gameface will let you control the mouse with your face
Project Gameface allows users to control the mouse on their device via their face without a mouse. The technology uses webcams to detect face and head movements, which translates into cursor movements on computers. Let’s also say that the technology can detect 468 points on the face and users can assign different actions to each facial expression (such as laughing for right click, winking for left click).
Many users around the world cannot use hardware such as keyboard and mouse for some reasons, including diseases. With the Gameface project, which eliminates the traditional mouse, Google aims to help these users and enable them to play games or have different experiences.
The company partnered with Lance Carr, a muscular dystrophy, in the development of the project. This disease can weaken the muscles over time, leading to the inability to perform basic tasks.
Project Gameface, as you can understand from its name, is still under development. It would not be wrong to guess that what will be available in the future can be quite useful.
