During its I/O 2023 keynote, Google announced plans to add generative AI features to its Search service, as expected. These features will offer different features from the Bard chatbot artificial intelligence, which can now be used without going on a waiting list.
Google’s blog post states that the new features will be tested in Search Labs before being rolled out to all users. So it’s not open yet. The use of generative AI will allow users to type more complete search prompts.
According to the post, “Which is better for a family with children under 3 and a dog, Bryce canyon or Arches?’ Let’s take a question like. Normally, you can break this single question into smaller questions, sort the existing information, and try to put the pieces together yourself. With generative AI, Search can do some of that work for you. An AI-powered piece of important information to consider You will see a snapshot and links to dig deeper.” Bryce canyon and Arches are two national parks in the USA.

In another blog post, Google also mentions a new Perspectives for Search feature designed to help people learn from the thinking of others: “Let’s say you move to another part of the country and don’t know anyone living there yet. You can search for ‘how to make friends in a new city’ and tap the Perspectives filter, which shows a results page with advice from other people, such as personal stories told via video or tips from commenters in a forum thread.”
