Although many websites on the Internet are offered for free, the bulk of their revenue comes from advertisements. It’s no different on YouTube, where many creators monetize the ads in their videos. However, there are ad-blocking plugins that block the display of these ads and thus the revenue source of the sites.

According to reports posted on Reddit earlier this week, some users encountered the following message when trying to watch videos on YouTube, stating that playback was blocked until ad-blocking software was disabled. This warning was also later confirmed by a YouTube employee in the YouTube subreddit.

Considering that not only YouTube but also creators come from ads, it’s understandable why YouTube no longer wants ad blockers on the platform and decided to test the feature. Still, many users in the same thread continue to express their frustration with the significant increase in ad placement on videos on the site.

Predictably, YouTube wants to increase Premium subscriptions in hopes of capturing users who don’t want to see ads on the site, and by the same notice, users are encouraged to try YouTube Premium, which includes, among other benefits, the removal of ads from videos.
