Xbox boss Phil Spencer made some important statements in an interview with Kinda Funny. Spencer stated in part of his interview that he thinks that making very good games will not change the place of Xbox among consoles.

The famous businessman also gave some important statements about the prominent companies in game consoles such as Sony and Nintendo in an interview published on YouTube.

Xbox isn’t trying to outrun Nintendo and Sony

Spencer stated that he did not try to leave Xbox’s biggest rivals Sony and Nintendo behind in terms of consoles, and that he would not succeed: “We are not in the business of surpassing Sony or Nintendo. There is no solution or victory for us in this matter.”

In the continuation of his statement, the businessman stated that they are in the third place and that the other two companies are strong. He also added that different deals made by other companies complicate the situation for Xbox. Although there is no definite statement here, it is possible to say that Spencer is implicitly targeting PlayStation. Rumors were circulating that Sony made deals that prevented games from coming to Xbox Game Pass.

Spencer said Microsoft invests in ensuring Xbox owners have a good experience and feel their needs are met; but he admits he can’t beat Sony and Nintendo in the traditional console race. The company’s focus on popular services such as Game Pass and cloud gaming also supports this. However, Spencer adds that the console is still the “core” of the Xbox brand, and Microsoft will continue to focus on it despite its different strategy.

Big games like Starfield won’t change that, according to Spencer.

The head of Xbox also stated that good games will not change the situation: “I see comments that if you make great games everything will turn around. It’s not fair to think that console share will change dramatically if we develop great games.”

“There is no world where Starfield is an 11 out of 10 game and people are starting to sell their PS5s,” Spencer said, adding that much-anticipated big games like Starfield won’t change that.
