Work has begun for the first facility to be established in Europe
The new plant, reportedly planned to be built in Germany, will be based on the 28 nm production node and will be one of TSMC’s first plants in Europe. However, it is reported that the giant manufacturer has started negotiations with Robert Bosch and automotive suppliers.
For those who don’t know, the European Union is working on a 43 billion euro Chip Law to increase European chip production and reduce dependency on US and Asian chip manufacturers, following global supply chain issues. The new facility to be established in this context will result in an investment of more than $11 billion with government subsidies, partners such as NXP, Bosch and Infineon.
According to the details in the report, TSMC plans to focus on the automotive sector with the new facility to be established. As you know, many manufacturers such as Qualcomm, Nvidia and MediaTek have started to announce their new investments in this field. Therefore, it should be noted that the decision from TSMC is not surprising.
