In the second phase of the launch, the rocket was expected to return to its starting point. But something went wrong and the rocket landed in a completely different place, in the neighboring country of Norway. Although peace and good neighborly relations have been established between the two Scandinavian countries for a long time, the event caused a serious sensation.
On its way back, the TEXUS-58 deviated from its course and crashed 40 kilometers northwest of its planned location. Although the rocket crashed into a deserted area in the mountainous region and did not cause any injury or loss of life, the Norwegian government stated that such an event was unacceptable.
“The issue is taken seriously”
In the statement made by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated that any unauthorized action on the Norwegian side of the border was taken very seriously, and it was emphasized that this was a very important event that could cause great damage. It was also stated that in case of border violation, it is extremely important that those responsible immediately inform the Norwegian authorities through the appropriate channels.
Esrange Space Center official, Marko Kohberg, said that the issue of the 1.6-tonne rocket deviating from the planned direction was taken seriously. Stating that the causes of the incident are currently being investigated, Kohberg stated that the results of the investigation should be waited without speculating.
It was recorded that the rocket, which fell 10 kilometers away from the nearest settlement, was brought to Esrange by helicopter the next day. However, while the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that its neighbors do not have the right to remove the wreckage from its territory without permission, Sweden does not seem to mind these criticisms.
