OpenAI said it will offer a tool to verify the age of users in Italy. EU users will be presented with a new form to object to the use of personal data.

Italy Reopens ChatGPT After Regulatory Clarifications Provided

It was reactivated in Italy after OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, addressed issues raised by Italy’s data protection authority.

Last month, Garante said ChatGPT had no legal basis to justify the massive collection and storage of personal data to train the chatbot.

The Italian regulator suspended ChatGPT in the past months as part of personal data protection. Responding to this development, OpenAI agreed to meet the requirements in the country, and ChatGPT was reactivated in the country.

Regulatory agency Garante had given OpenAI until Sunday to address concerns about allowing the chatbot to be operational again in the country.

Garante also accused OpenAI of not checking the age of ChatGPT users, who must be 13 or older. OpenAI said it will offer a tool to verify the age of users in Italy after they register.
