After Elon Musk bought Twitter, many users were looking for an alternative social media platform. The new application called Bluesky, developed by Twitter founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey, has begun to break download records. The invitation-based running service is available on Android and iOS.
Twitter and Bluesky rivalry heats up
Jack Dorsey launched his new Twitter-like app last month. Bluesky, which can be entered with an invitation code, has reached a remarkable number of downloads on iPhone. The latest report from app analytics firms showed that Bluesky has been downloaded by more than 245,000 iPhone users.
An Android version for the app was also announced recently. Users on the waiting list have started testing the beta version. However, the number of downloads on the Android side remains unclear.
Bluesky, which was started to be developed by Dorsey in 2019, offers a Twitter-like interface. The platform, which does not include the basic features of social media such as direct messaging, was touted as a “decentralized standard for social media”.
It has been reported that Bluesky will be developed according to the way users interact. It allows 300-character posts and replies, retweet and direct sharing of photos and texts.
One of the key differences between Bluesky and Twitter is that it takes a more open approach to users. Elon Musk’s recent controversial decisions have also broken trust in Twitter. Although Bluesky is still in beta, it appeals to a significant user base.
