Counterpoint, one of the popular market research companies, has done a remarkable research on smartphones. Research on refurbished smartphones sold over the past year has revealed that the number one choice of consumers in this category is iPhone. So much so that almost one out of every two second-hand phones was a refurbished iPhone. Let’s take a closer look at this research.
According to the research, refurbished smartphone sales increased by 5 percent on an annual basis. Moreover, such a situation occurred, although second-hand refurbished phone sales in China fell by 17 percent. Counterpoint states that if the effects of COVID-19 in China had not increased again, refurbished phone sales would have been much higher.
The most preferred brands in the refurbished phone category:
- Apple: 49% share
- Samsung: 26% share
- vivo – OPPO: 3% share
- Huawei: 2% share
- Other: 17% share
Making statements about the research, Counterpoint announced that Apple is the fastest growing brand in the refurbished phone market. Officials, who say that a certain portion of Android users in the refurbished phone market have shifted to iOS, say that Samsung’s 2 percent loss of market share on an annual basis is due to this. It was also announced that consumers tend to prefer flagship models when purchasing refurbished smartphones.
5G becomes standard!
Counterpoint’s research has revealed that the refurbished smartphone market is slowly turning to 5G. Because 5G supported models accounted for 13 percent of all refurbished phone sales during the past year. According to researchers, in 2023, we will witness this rate increase exponentially.
