Google has been using Samsung’s camera sensors, display panels, modems and other electronic components since the launch of the Pixel 6 series. The company seems to intend to continue this policy on its next-generation Pixel series smartphones as well.

Google Pixel 8 Pro will surpass Samsung S23 Ultra

Google is preparing to launch the Pixel 8 series in September or October. The company, which wants to increase its claim in the market with its new generation smartphones, will use the largest camera sensor Samsung has ever produced in Pixel 8 Pro models.

According to the information, Google will equip the Pixel 8 Pro smartphone with the ISOCELL GN2 camera sensor. The camera sensor, which Samsung presented about two years ago, has a resolution of 50 Megapixels and a size of 1/1.12 inches.

Producing 1.4μm pixels, ISOCELL GN2 increases the pixel size to 2.8μm with 4-in-1 pixel grouping. For comparison, the 200 Megapixel ISOCELL HP2 camera sensor used in the Galaxy S23 Ultra has 2.4 μm pixels after 16-in-1 pixel grouping.

So the ISOCELL GN2 theoretically offers better performance in low light conditions. Let us remind you that ISOCELL GN2 can also produce 100 MP images using the remosaic algorithm. In addition, Samsung’s largest camera sensor can record 8K videos at 30fps, 4K videos at 120fps, and Full HD videos at 480fps.

Having many high-end features, ISOCELL GN2 also includes Dual Pixel Pro autofocus for fast, reliable and accurate focusing. This sensor is also home to progressive HDR, which can preserve details in highlights and shadows while consuming 24 percent less power than other variants.

It seems that Google will increase its claim on the camera with the ISOCELL GN2 and Pixel 8 Pro. So what do you think about Google phones and Samsung’s ISOCELL GN2 camera sensor? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
