Apple’s new patent, which has emerged, shows that the company may head for a game-defining makeover on its future iMacs. According to the documentation, the iMac in question may consist of a single sheet of glass that will expand the user’s screen by projecting the screen onto a wall or surface behind it.
The idea is incredibly futuristic, even by Apple’s trend-setting standards. The idea of expanding the desktop with a mirrored screen looks like something straight out of a science fiction movie.
The patent content states the following sentence: “In some embodiments, the electronic device may be equipped with reflective screens that help improve the space used to provide visual output to a user.” Patent drawings also show an iMac projecting information onto its back, while the documentation further states, “The rear enclosure wall may have a pane of glass or other transparent structure through which the image sensors and other optical sensors receive light.” This could mean that the back of the iMac will be made of glass.
If we see an iMac with clear glass in the near future, or an iMac that can project its screen across the room to expand its screen size, it could be a game changer for the entire industry and change our expectations for the best all-in-ones. We’ll wait and see.
